Skin. We all have it. Our skin is the largest organ we have and it makes up around 15% of our overall body weight.
Our skin looks after our bodies by carrying out various tasks to help keep us healthy and ultimately protecting us from the environment. It only makes sense to care for it.
Establishing a good skincare routine which addresses your individual needs will help you achieve healthy, glowing, youthful skin and steer clear of problems such as acne, dryness and premature ageing.
Creating your skincare routine:
Find your skin type
Not all skin is created equal. Some people naturally have dry skin, while others have oily skin. And then there’s the rare individual who has normal skin, but these people are few, far apart and possibly even just a myth. Other categories include sensitive and combination skin types.
Identify your skin concerns
Skincare concerns are different to skin types as they are secondary conditions resulting from environmental factors and their effects can be manipulated. For example, dehydration, ageing, acne, etc.
Find products that work for you
The thing that is going to benefit your skin the most is for you to be clued-up so that you can give it exactly what it needs. Do your research. Read product labels. Don’t understand something? Look it up in the glossary.
Good skin doesn’t happen over night. It takes about 6-8 weeks to truly start seeing long-term improvements in your skin, so be patient and be consistent.
(Remember: If a product is very harsh or irritating on your skin, stop using it immediately.)
Our skin needs are not fixed. Skin changes over time and is affected by environment, genetics and age. If your skin has changed, adapt your routine to suit it.
This blog is designed for both men and women, to be the ‘go to’ for informative and accessible skincare. Future posts will cover everything from how to deal with your skin type to introductions to specific ingredients you may (or may not) have heard of. There will also be the odd post about makeup, hair-care and lifestyle.
